What will I learn?
This qualification aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of the key principles of counselling skills in everyday life and work, and some of the approaches that underpin the use of these skills. This course is ideal if you are looking to gain a qualification through a flexible self-study approach. You can start the course anytime throughout the year and can be completed within 12 weeks. The course is delivered through our online platform, where you will be given the relevant learning materials and assessments for this qualification.

What will I need to take part?
The course is delivered through our online platform, where you will be given the relevant learning materials and assessments for this qualification. However, you will need a laptop, PC, or tablet, and a stable internet connection.

What to expect
The course is online; you will receive a login to our learning platform where you will find interactive learning materials and assessments. You will be given deadlines to complete and submit the work. You will receive detailed feedback on your work so that you can improve your skills as you progress through the qualification.

You will be assigned a Tutor, who will be in touch throughout the 12 weeks to discuss your progress and support you through the course.

Where can it lead to?
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:

Level 2/3 Diploma in Health and Social care
Level 2 qualifications in Mental Health
Level 2 certificate in safeguarding and prevent
Level 2 in understanding Children and young people’s mental health
Level 3 Award in Counselling Skills and Theory
Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills

Course eligibility and fees
This adult learning course may be funded through the Adult Skills Fund.

To be considered for funding, you will usually need to be:

- aged 19 or over on 31st August in the funding year

- resident in England, outside a devolved adult skills funding area.

- ordinarily resident in the UK on the first day of learning.

- Able to provide evidence of your identity, residency, prior qualifications and where relevant, benefits or income.

We will gather information from you such as your employment status, any claimed state benefits, and if you are working what your earnings are.

If you are eligible for public funding your course will be free. If you are not eligible for public funding, including some international students or people not ordinarily resident in the UK, you will need to pay the full course fee.

Asylum seekers may be eligible for funding in some circumstances, including where they have lived in the UK for 6 months or longer while their claim is being considered, or where they receive certain types of local authority support. We will check this with you at enrolment.
