What will I learn?
This course follows on from Beginners Part 1, 2 and 3 Dressmaking courses. It offers learners the chance to hone their skills with a more challenging project. During the 10 weeks, sewers will construct either a lined waistcoat or a lined jacket depending on their personal preference. If you have not completed the aforementioned courses but can thread a sewing machine, sew basic seams and read a basic commercial pattern then you too could apply. Embrace the joy of sewing your own garments.

What will I need to take part?
Learners will be required to bring a sewing machine and their own dressmaking equipment from the first session. A list of recommended patterns will be sent out by the tutor before the course starts, but you do not need the pattern right from the first session You will need, in time, to buy the material and notions required to complete the garment but the tutor will advise as you progress.

What to expect
.Enter outcome 1 -Apply your knowledge of standard sizing to customise more specific structural changes and make a toile. Enter outcome 2 -Recognise the importance of sourcing the correct materials and improve knowledge of the language of fabric. Enter outcome 3 -Create a precise 3D garment structure using seams, interfacing and, where needed, shoulder pads. Enter outcome 4 -Construct a complex multi piece garment seamlessly into a finished and wearable piece of clothing that fits your specific body requirements.

Where can it lead to?
Following your course, you can use your own successfully fitted pattern to adapt many commercial patterns to suit your specific body requirements. YouTube has many dressmaking channels for any level, such as Made to Sew, Evelyn Wood or Annika Victoria. Look forward to the satisfaction and potential savings you can make from using and developing your dress making skills!

Course eligibility and fees
This adult learning course is available to residents of Northamptonshire who are: - aged 19 or over on 31st August in the funding year - living in England, outside a devolved adult skills funding area. - ordinarily resident in England on the first day of learning. - Resident in England for the duration of your learning. If you don't meet the above requirements, including some international students or people not ordinarily resident in the UK, you will not be able attend this course. Asylum seekers may be eligible to attend in some circumstances, including where they have lived in the UK for 6 months or longer while their claim is being considered, or where they receive certain types of local authority support. Fees are payable on enrolment as published on the booking page. If you are in receipt of certain benefits or in employment and earning below £25,750 a year, you may be eligible for reduced fees. Under certain circumstances you may be asked to provide evidence of your identity, residency, prior qualifications and where relevant, benefits or income.
