You will learn how to use English in everyday situations and develop your confidence in using the English language. This course will equip you with important skills that help you in everyday life, such as problem-solving, communication and analytical thinking and it will increase your confidence and resilience.

What will I need to take part?
We recommend that you have paper,a pencil, a pen and a notepad during the session, resources are provided in Google Classroom. If this is an online course, a laptop, PC or tablet and a stable internet connection will be needed.

What to expect
English Functional Skills courses are aimed both at people looking to brush up on certain skills for everyday life, but also for those looking for GCSE grade equivalents. They are also the perfect qualification for you if you didn't achieve the GCSEs, you wanted when you were younger but now wish to develop essential life skills. Functional Skills courses have different levels. Before the course starts, you will complete an initial assessment to make sure you join the most suitable course level for you. Functional Skills are recognised GCSE alternative qualifications, with a Functional Skills Level 2 course being equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 (C). Both GCSEs and Functional Skills qualifications are ideal for anyone who wants to get to grips with the basics of English. However, one may be more suitable for you than the other depending on your learning or career goals. If you are unsure which is more suitable for you, please contact us for further information, advice and guidance.

Where can it lead to?
Functional Skills in English and Maths are essential for success for further study, qualifications and work opportunities. This qualification can provide the basis to access jobs, training opportunities and higher-level education courses. You could progress to higher level Functional Skills; a Level 2 course is the highest level available in Functional Skills. This course is accredited by City and Guilds which means that upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate that is recognised by employers and other education providers showing the qualification title and level achieved.
