Capture, create and edit amazing videos using just your smartphone. Have you ever wanted to create better videos for social media, family memories, travel, or your own creative projects? This practical five-week course will help you make the most of your smartphone camera and develop the skills needed to produce high-quality videos with confidence.

You'll discover how to plan and film engaging footage, improve composition, lighting and sound, explore a range of filming techniques, and edit your videos using free or low-cost mobile apps. Throughout the course, you'll take part in practical activities and receive supportive feedback to help build your skills. Whether you're creating videos for fun, promoting a hobby or small business, or simply capturing life's special moments, this friendly course is suitable for beginners and no previous experience is required.

What will I learn?
During this five-week course you will develop the skills and confidence to create high-quality videos using your smartphone. Topics may include understanding your smartphone camera settings for video, planning and storyboarding simple video projects, camera angles, framing and composition, filming smooth, stable footage, using natural and artificial light effectively, recording clear audio and reducing background noise, introduction to simple editing using smartphone apps. adding titles, music and transitions, exporting and sharing your finished videos and tips for creating engaging content for family, hobbies or social media. By the end of the course you will have created and edited your own short video project using your smartphone.

What will I need to take part?
No previous video experience is required. If you have completed our Introduction to Smartphone Photography course, you will be able to build on those skills. If you're new to Smartphone Photography, you'll still be able to take part, although you may benefit from a little extra practice between sessions. You should bring a fully charged smartphone with video recording capability (Apple or Android), your phone charger or power bank if available, any headphones or earbuds that connect to your phone (helpful but not essential), any apps recommended by your tutor before the course starts, and a willingness to experiment, practise and share ideas with others. Please wear comfotable clothing and footwear suitable for walking outside as photoshoots may take place outdoors. Should weather conditions be unsuitable for outside work, the sessions will be adapted to be held indoors.

What to expect
This is a practical, hands-on course with the sessions taking place both in the classroom and outdoors. Each two-hour session will include tutor demonstrations, practical filming activities, group discussion and opportunities to edit your own videos. You will gradually build your skills over the five weeks, completing a range of short tasks before producing a final video project. The course provides a friendly and supportive learning environment where you can learn at your own pace and ask questions throughout.

Where can it lead to?
After completing this course you may wish to progress onto intermediate smartphone photography or videography courses, digital media and content creation courses, social media marketing courses, photography courses using DSLR or mirrorless cameras, creative arts and digital skills programmes. The skills gained can also be used to create family videos, holiday memories, promote a small business, support volunteering opportunities or develop your own creative interests.

Course eligibility and fees
This adult learning course is available to residents of Northamptonshire who are: - aged 19 or over on 31st August in the funding year - living in England, outside a devolved adult skills funding area. - ordinarily resident in England on the first day of learning. - Resident in England for the duration of your learning. If you don't meet the above requirements, including some international students or people not ordinarily resident in the UK, you will not be able attend this course. Asylum seekers may be eligible to attend in some circumstances, including where they have lived in the UK for 6 months or longer while their claim is being considered, or where they receive certain types of local authority support. Fees are payable on enrolment as published on the booking page. If you are in receipt of certain benefits or in employment and earning below £25,750 a year, you may be eligible for reduced fees. Under certain circumstances you may be asked to provide evidence of your identity, residency, prior qualifications and where relevant, benefits or income.
