Description

Our 10-week Intermediate Guitar Course is designed for students who have completed Guitar Beginners Part 1, 2 and 3, or for players with an equivalent level of experience. This course builds on the foundations learned in the beginner programme and helps students develop greater confidence, technique, and musicality.

You'll explore more advanced chords and strumming patterns, improve rhythm and timing, develop lead guitar skills, and learn how to play across a variety of musical styles. Classes are taught in a supportive and enjoyable environment, encouraging students to grow in confidence while playing with others.

What will I learn?
This 10-week course is designed to help students build on the skills developed in Guitar Beginners Part 1, 2 and 3, or an equivalent level of experience. During the course you will: - Develop confidence playing a wider range of chords, including barre chords - Improve chord changes, rhythm and strumming techniques - Learn fingerpicking patterns and accompaniment styles - Explore scales, riffs and simple lead guitar techniques - Develop improvisation and playing by ear skills - Learn songs across different musical styles and genres - Improve timing, dynamics and overall musicianship - Build confidence playing with others in a group setting The course aims to support both enjoyment and progression, helping students become more confident and versatile guitar players.

What will I need to take part?
Students should have completed Guitar Beginners Part 1, 2 and 3, or already have a similar level of playing ability. You should be comfortable with, basic open chords, simple strumming patterns, changing chords in time and reading chord charts and basic tablature. You will need to bring your own acoustic or electric guitar, a guitar pick (optional but recommended), a tuner and a notebook or device for taking notes and practice reminders. Regular practice between sessions will help you make the most progress throughout the course.

What to expect
Classes are friendly, relaxed and supportive, with opportunities to learn both individually and as part of a group. Each session will typically include; warm-up exercises and technique practice, learning new chords, scales or playing techniques, guided song practice and ensemble playing, tutor demonstrations and individual support, opportunities to ask questions and develop confidence. Students will be encouraged to practise at home between sessions to reinforce learning and build skills week by week.

Where can it lead to?
After completing the Intermediate Guitar Course, students may progress onto: - Advanced guitar courses - Songwriting or music performance classes - Playing in bands, ensembles, or informal jam sessions - Developing specialist interests such as blues, rock, fingerstyle, or lead guitar - Independent learning and more advanced repertoire The course also supports personal enjoyment, confidence building, and creative expression through music.

Course eligibility and fees
This adult learning course is available to residents of Northamptonshire who are: - aged 19 or over on 31st August in the funding year - resident in England, outside a devolved adult skills funding area. - ordinarily resident in the UK on the first day of learning. If you don't meet the above requirements, including some international students or people not ordinarily resident in the UK, you will not be able attend this course. Asylum seekers may be eligible to attend in some circumstances, including where they have lived in the UK for 6 months or longer while their claim is being considered, or where they receive certain types of local authority support. Fees are payable on enrolment as published on the booking page. If you are in receipt of certain benefits or in employment and earning below £25,750 a year, you may be eligible for reduced fees. Under certain circumstances you may be asked to provide evidence of your identity, residency, prior qualifications and where relevant, benefits or income.
