Description

Create a beautiful piece of hand-crafted silver jewellery in this inspiring 4.5 hour workshop. Guided by an experienced tutor, you will learn how to set a piece of sea glass into a bespoke silver pendant or piece of jewellery using traditional silversmithing techniques. You will explore cutting, shaping, soldering, and finishing silver while creating a unique keepsake to take home. Suitable for beginners and those with some jewellery-making experience.

What will I learn?
This hands-on workshop offers a short but creative introduction to silver jewellery making. Perfect for beginners or those with some experience, this session allows you to create at least one finished piece to take home. By the end of the session, you will understand and use basic jewellery tools and techniques, measure, cut, texture and shape silver, use simple soldering methods to join components, file, polish and finish a completed piece of jewellery, and demonstrate safe and effective use of the tools and materials. Projects will vary for each workshop and will be suited to your ability.

What will I need to take part?
All tools, materials (including a small amount of silver), and safety equipment will be provided. Additional silver may be available for purchase if you wish to purchase more items. Please bring an apron with you or wear old clothes, tie long hair back and avoid wearing loose clothing and open-toed shoes. You will be working on a small scale, so it is advisable to bring your glasses with you. Hand dexterity is also required to manipulate the materials. A notebook and pen are useful to take notes.

What to expect
This course offers a fun and relaxed environment where creativity and learning go hand in hand. The course will be delivered through a combination of tutor-led demonstrations of each key technique, step-by-step guidance through the making process, one-to-one support and troubleshooting, and small group learning in a relaxed and creative environment. Tutors use Google Classroom to help make course resources available both during and between sessions. Please take advantage of joining your Classroom when invited to do so.
