Description

A 3 session online evening course to help parents in Northamptonshire understand some of the issues both they and their children face moving from primary to secondary school. Plenty of helpful input and opportunities to share concerns and experience. Plus, create an action plan for your family towards the new academic year. Click More details for course information  

What will I learn?
You will find out about the changes and challenges of moving to secondary school with other parents and carers. The course will help you explore and develop strategies to help build your child's confidence as they start secondary school. You will learn how and where to find resources in school and beyond to support your child's transition.

What will I need to take part?
IT information:This course is delivered online using Google Classroom and Google Meet. You do not need any login to join the video Meet call. To join Google Classroom, you simply need a Gmail address and its password. Please check the confirmation email you receive after you book with Adult Learning for joining details. Course information is also on ‘My Account’ when you are logged in to the Adult Learning website.You can find help with our online learning platform on learners.northantsadultlearning.ac.uk/it-tips. If you plan to join the sessions using a tablet or smart phone, please check you have downloaded the free Google Classroom and Google Docs Apps.

What to expect?
Sessions will held online, and will be delivered live by the tutor, and you will be expected to have your camera turned on. Sessions will be interactive and will involve tutor input and group conversations. You may be asked to complete some simple tasks with your family between sessions.

Where can it lead to?
In previous years, parents with children shortly to move to secondary school have found this opportunity valuable to discuss meeting the changes involved in moving up to secondary, including an action plan for the summer before the new term. Uncertainty and anxieties are very real for many parents at this time. This course can help allay fears and build optimism about the opportunities of the transition from year 6-7.

This short course is free to parents and carers 19+, with year 6 children shortly to start at a secondary school in Northamptonshire.
