What will I learn?
This course is intended as a follow-on from Smartphone Photography - Level 1. Learners will develop their technical skillsets through a series of exercises contrasting the five W’s of visual storytelling with a more nuanced exploration of the digital image as art. Participants will learn how to create a set of images that emphasise the 5 W’s of visual storytelling, suitable for PR use, develop a criteria for identifying the aesthetic qualities present in art-themed imagery, edit digital images in-app for display on a wall mounted TV or HDMI digital projector, plan the technical, logistical and aesthetic components of a project assignment, present a digital picture-set to the group, based on the project assignment.

What will I need to take part?
A smartphone with a built-in camera (Apple or Android), enough storage space to take and save photographs, a fully charged battery for every session (a portable charger is helpful but not essential), clothing suitable for outdoor sessions (weather dependant), a note book and pen may be useful to take notes.

What to expect
A friendly, practical course with both indoor and outdoor photographic activities, tutor demonstrations followed by hands-on practice and creative tasks, guided exploration of nature and urban environments (as appropriate), with indoor alternatives if weather conditions are poor, group discussion and feedback to support your development.

Where can it lead to?
Level 2 develops greater technical control and creative intention, supporting progression into further study, enterprise, or more serious hobby practice. After completing Level 2, learners may share the skills they have learnt with family, friends and community groups They may wish to progress to one of the Smartphone Photography Discovery Walk sessions, Intermediate or Advanced Photography courses, documentary or Photo Storytelling workshops, Studio Lighting courses, digital editing and post-production courses, creative enterprise or small business start-up courses, accredited photography qualifications exhibiting work in community showcases or online platforms, developing freelance skills in areas such as event, product or content photography.

Course eligibility and fees
This course is for residents of Northamptonshire aged 19+. Fees are payable on enrolment as published on the booking page. If you are in receipt of certain benefits or in employment and earning a low salary, you could be eligible for reduced fees.
