Description

This qualification is an introduction to the knowledge and understanding needed to work in a school or college environment. This course is suitable for individuals who are interested in working in a support capacity in educational settings, including teaching assistants, 1:1 support role, administrative role, site support roles or volunteer working with children and young people from 5-19 years.  

What will I learn?
The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding needed to work in a school or college environment with children and young people aged 5-19 years of age. You do not need to have previous experience or qualifications in working with children to undertake this qualification. The topics are delivered using thematic approach and include: Learners will gain knowledge in areas such as: - Understanding schools and colleges as organisations - Health and safety in a learning environment - Safeguarding children and young people - Child and young person development - Communication and professional relationships

What will I need to take part?
This course is delivered online using Google Classroom and Google Meet. You do not need any login to join the video Meet call. To join Google Classroom, you simply need a Gmail address and its password. Please check the confirmation email you receive after you book with Adult Learning for joining details. Course information is also on 'My Account' when you are logged in to the Adult Learning website. You can find help with our online learning platform on: https://learners.northantsadultlearning.ac.uk/home If you plan to join the sessions using a tablet or smart phone, please check you have downloaded the free Google Classroom and Google Docs Apps. All our learning resources are available on our online platform, Google Classroom. However, you may wish to bring a pen and notepad to take notes.

What to expect
Learners should have a keen interest in working in educational settings and be willing to participate in classroom activities. The course includes online classroom-based learning with interactive activities. It is tutor-led and does not require a work placement; however, opportunities to have a work placement within Adult Learning are available. Learners will complete a portfolio of evidence which may include: - Written assignments - Practical tasks - Tutor observations and discussions Sessions will be delivered live by the tutor, and you will be expected to have your camera turned on. Sessions will be interactive and will involve tutor input and group conversations. The course takes place over 22 weeks for 3-hour sessions.

Where can it lead to?
Successful learners may progress to: - Employment in schools or colleges as support staff/teaching assistant/1:1 support roles - Apprenticeships in educational support roles

Course eligibility and fees
Learners should have a keen interest in working in educational settings and be willing to participate in classroom activities. No formal qualifications required but a good command of English would be beneficial. You may be required to complete an online initial assessment to join this course. - A willingness to learn and engage in the course. You should be 19+ by 31.08 in the academic year you wish to study. Please note: You will be required to complete an online initial assessment to join this course. Admissions Process: After you register your interest, a member of our team will contact you to arrange the next steps. General Information: In the unlikely event that you are unable to complete the course and need to withdraw, there is a withdrawal fee of £100. Eligibility: If you are in receipt of Jobseekers allowance, ESA or any other means-tested UK benefit (and your income excluding benefits is less than £617 per month or £988 per month for joint benefit claim), or you are employed and earning less than £25,750 per year you will be eligible to attend this course for the free. Even if you don't meet these criteria, you may still be eligible for learner support, which could cover the course fees. Eligibility is subject to providing evidence.
