Description

Take your silver jewellery making skills to the next level in this 10-week, intermediate-level course designed for learners with some basic experience. You'll explore more complex construction techniques and refine your design skills while working on your own projects. Build confidence in stone setting, mixed metals, chain making and working with more intricate soldering and finishing processes. This course encourages creative experimentation while deepening technical ability and craftsmanship.

What will I learn?
This 10-week intermediate course is designed for learners who have already completed a beginners’ jewellery course or have equivalent experience. Learners will develop their design ideas and refine their technical skills, working on one or more personal projects with tutor support. The course aims to deepen learner’s jewellery-making skills and support the design and production of personalised silver pieces through structured projects and independent practice. By the end of the course, learners will be able to refine soldering, forming, texturing and finishing techniques, work more confidently and independently, explore more advanced techniques appropriate to their skill level, manage a simple jewellery making project from design to completion, develop creative confidence and maintain safe and effective working practices in the studio.

What will I need to take part?
All tools, materials (including a small amount of silver), and safety equipment will be provided. Additional silver may be available for purchase if you wish to purchase more items. Please bring an apron with you or wear old clothes, tie long hair back and avoid wearing loose clothing and open-toed shoes. You will be working on a small scale, so it is advisable to bring your glasses with you. Hand dexterity is also required to manipulate the materials. A notebook and pen are useful to take notes.

What to expect
This course offers a fun and relaxed environment where creativity and learning go hand in hand. The course will be delivered through a combination of tutor-led demonstrations of each technique, hands-on practice and project-based learning, design and development activities, peer discussion and feedback, ongoing support and 1:1 guidance. Tutors use Google Classroom to help make course resources available both during and between sessions. Please take advantage of joining your Classroom when invited to do so. Where can it lead to?
This course is a great next step for anyone interested in pursuing jewellery making as a hobby, a craft business, and even a future career. This course could lead onto further short courses and workshops, working independently at home or in a shared studio space, start developing a small collection or small-scale selling, and progression to our Silver Jewellery Workshops or accredited or higher-level courses at college or university. Your tutor will also be able to advise on next steps and progression opportunities.
