Description

This course is designed for people with some sewing experience. Who are able to use a dressmaking pattern and are confident with using a sewing machine. This course is ideal for people who have already attended the Dressmaking for Beginners Part 1.  

Course aim
A continuation of Dressmaking for Beginners.This course focusses on the top half of the body and you will follow through the process of making a top/shirt to fit. You will continue to develop new techniques each week and build your confidence in achieveing a variety of skills.

Course Outcomes
List the different steps involved in the making of a garment; from picking the pattern through to finished garment. Modify chosen paper pattern to fit own personal measurements. Identify different techniques involved in tops/blouses i.e inserting a sleeve, sleeve openings, pleats, gathers, etc. Assemble a variety of samples to support future projects. Demonstrate progression and development in completion of personal project.This could be a finished garment or specimen.

How will the course be taught?
The course will be taught face-to-face. The tutor will use a mix of demonstrations, The course will be taught face-to-face. The tutor will use a mix of demonstrations, participant application and one-to-one learning. There will be a range of samples to help support your learning plus weekly emails to recap on the teaching.

What do I need to bring / have ready?
You will need to bring a sewing machine plus a sewing kit from week one. A notebook and pen is also advised for you to jot down notes for personal learning.A dressmaking pattern and suitable fabric will be required at a later point in the course, but your tutor will guide you through when these items need to be acquired.
