Description

To build on the learning from Basic British Sign Language Part 1 and 2. To expand vocabulary and build on independent conversations. To develop a greater use of BSL structure including placement and story telling. To explore more Deaf awareness and understand about the issues that Deaf and hard of hearing people face every day.

The aim of this course is to build on the part 1 and 2 BSL courses. If you have not completed part 1 and 2 or at least 2 terms of BSL please contact the office to enquire about a part 1 or introduction course. We will expand the vocabulary and build on the conversations from parts 1 and 2. We will continue to explore Deaf awareness and the issues that Deaf and hard of hearing people face every day.  

What will I learn?

What will I need to take part?
Pen and paper, a small dictionary if have already. Let’s Sign Pocket Dictionary by Cath Smith. Handouts will be shared via email.

What to expect
- Remember and use the BSL vocabulary taught in parts 1 and 2. - Demonstrate the use of new vocabulary – workplace signs, Animals and pets etc - Hold simple independent conversations in Sign Language using the topics taught in all parts of Basic BSL. - Using conversation to show :- - Use of BSL openers and closers of conversation - Understanding of BSL eitiguette - Understanding and use of some BSL structure in independent communication - To demonstrate awareness of the issues facing Deaf and hard of hearing people every day Face to face course - Max 14 students.

Where can it lead to?
Accredited Courses available at Deafconnect Northampton and other organisations and the opportunity to do voluntary work with Deafconnect to improve skills.
