Course aim
Learn how to develop skills in jewellery design and construction to produce a selection of wearable pieces. You will learn all the traditional techniques needed to make items such as rings, earrings, bangles and pendants. TECHNIQUES THIS TERM: Enamelling, Keum-Boo, stone setting and repousse / press forming

Course Outcomes
a) Design a selection of jewellery pieces developed from visual research b) Select and order materials needed to make your designs c) Use hand tools and traditional jewellery techniques to construct a number of wearable jewellery pieces d) Research and identify techniques used by contemporary practicing jewellers e) Describe safe use of jewellery tools and methods

How will the course be taught?
A variety of teaching methods are used including: demonstration, group participation and individual support. Resources such as handouts and videos are used to enhance learning.

What do I need to bring / have ready?
Sketchpad (at least A4 size), pencils, pen, A4 plastic wallet (for keeping handouts), glue stick, scissors and an object or image of a form that inspires you - this could be from nature or a man-made item although try to avoid a piece of jewellery.

Saw, blades, base metal and solder are included in the fees. This course is suitable for beginners only.
