Description

An introduction to the essential skills needed for successful outcomes in dressmaking projects. Development of new techniques so you can learn something new each week and build confidence in your skills either in a finished garment or a garment specimen.  

Course aim
An introduction to the essential skills needed for successful outcomes in dressmaking projects. Development of new techniques so you can learn something new each week and build confidence in your skills either in a finished garment or a garment specimen.

Course Outcomes
A. List the different steps involved in the making of a garment. B. Identify different techniques including marking, pressing,accurate cutting,sewing and fitting. C. Recognise and differentiate between basic handsewing/machine stitching uses. D. Assemble a variety of samples to support future projects. E. Demonstrate progression and development on completion of personal project whether it be a finished garment/specimen.

How will the course be taught?
The course will be taught face-to-face. The tutor will use a mix of demonstrations, participant application and one-to-one learning. There will be a range of samples and hand-outs to support your learning plus weekly emails to recap the teaching.

What do I need to bring / have ready?
For session 1, you will need to bring a tape measure, notebook and pen, your own sewing machine and a pair of dressmaking scissors. A basic sewing kit will be required during the course but your tutor will inform you of what it should contain during the first session. A dressmaking pattern and suitable fabric will be required at a later date but your tutor will, again, guide you through when these items need to be acquired.
