Description

If you are interested in working towards an ESOL qualification you can register your interest by adding yourself to the waiting list for this course. This will make future enrolment easier and enable us to contact you once we have courses available for booking. You will also need to undertake a face-to-face initial assessment to ascertain the level you will be working towards, and an eligibility check.

ESOL courses are for people whose first language is not English. An ESOL course can improve your English fluency, confidence in English speaking, reading and writing, and help increase your employability. You can choose between a face-to-face course or learning onlin using Google Classroom and all courses are delivered by specialist language tutors.

Each course is delivered through two 2 hour sessions per week and typically last 11 weeks. You will be expected to attend a face-to-face exam, even if you learn online. ESOL courses are free for learners that are on certain benefits or earn below £25,750 per year.

Learners who earn over that amount are still welcome to attend the course, but will need to make a financial contribution for each unit.

Courses start throughout the year, subject to sufficient interest. You will be contacted when the next course is available for enrolment.

This course is free to eligible learners and more information about eligibility criteria can be found on our website. If you are not eligible for full funding, the cost of this course will be:

ESOL SL&C £360
ESOL Reading £180
ESOL Writing £270

This course is free to eligible learners, for more information of eligibility requirements please contact Adult Learning

What will I learn?
You will increase your confidence in English and develop your speaking and listening, reading and writing skills whilst working towards an ESOL Skills for Life qualification at an appropriate level for you. This will help you gain the necessary skills that may be required for employment, further education and day-to-day life in the UK.

What will I need to take part?
We recommend that you bring a notepad and pen to the lessons. Resources will be provided in Google Classroom. If this is an online course, a laptop, PC or tablet and a stable internet connection will be needed.

What to expect?
ESOL courses have different levels. Before the course starts, you will complete an initial assessment to make sure you join a class that is the right level for you. Each course consists of two 2-hour lessons each week and lasts for approximately 11 weeks. There are three units in an academic year: Writing, Reading and Speaking and Listening. You will progress faster if you complete all your homework and practice as much as you can at home. If you are doing an online course, you will be sent the Google Classroom joining information and the link for the live video lessons by email, prior to the start date of the course.

Where can it lead to?
You could progress to the next ESOL unit, and once you have completed all 3 units: Writing, Reading and Speaking and Listening, you could move up to the next level. We provide courses for Entry 1 to Level 2 learners, so there is lots of potential for further study. Information, advice and guidance on further learning and progression will be available during the course.

Ciurse eligibilty and fees
You must not already have a Level 2 full qualification in ESOL. Learners who are eligible for full funding from the ESFA will not be charged a fee for the course, including exams, resources or awarding organisation registration and fees. Most people will be eligible for funding if the learning is taking place in England, and you: - are aged 19 or over on 31 August of the funding year - have permission to live in the UK for the duration of the course - are resident in the UK on the first day of learning - earn below £25,750. If you are an Asylum Seeker, you must have lived in the UK for at least 6 months. For more information, contact our skills team on adultskillsadultlearning@northnorthants.gov.uk.
