Description


If you are interested in working towards an ESOL qualification you can register your interest by adding yourself to the waiting list for this course. This will make future enrolment easier and enable us to contact you once we have courses available for booking. You will also need to undertake an initial assessment to ascertain the level you will be working towards.

ESOL courses are for people whose first language is not English. An ESOL course can improve your English fluency, confidence in English speaking, reading and writing, and help increase your employability. Courses take place online using Google Classroom and are delivered by specialist language tutors.

Each course is delivered through two 2 hour sessions per week and typically last 15 weeks. ESOL courses are free for learners that are unemployed and in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance or Universal Credit. Or if you are employed and earn below £20,319 per year.

Learners who earn over that amount are still welcome to attend the course, but will be expected to make a financial contribution for each unit which you can pay as you go.

Courses start throughout the year, subject to sufficient interest. You will be contacted when the next course is available for enrolment.

Course aim
To increase your confidence in English and develop your speaking and listening, reading and writing skills.

Course Outcomes
a) To be able to speak English using correct pronunciation and grammar. b) To understand key words and phrases in the spoken language. c) To know how to extract information from a variety of reading texts and resources. d) To know how to write using correct sentence structure and tenses.

How will the course be taught?
This ESOL course is taught online via Google Classroom.

Could I gain a certificate?
You could gain a Gateway ESOL Skills for Life qualification at the level appropriate to your learning.

What do I need to bring / have ready?
You will need a laptop, PC or tablet and a stable internet connection. We recommend that you have paper, a pencil, a pen and a notepad during the session. You will need to provide photographic I.D to take the exam.

To be eligible for an ESOL course for free you must meet our eligibility requirements. This includes having lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years and if from an EU/EEA country must have a pre-settled or settled status, this rule doesn't apply for those granted a refugee status. UK nationals in an EEA country do not qualify unless they have recently returned to the UK. If you are an international student, you can still enrol on this course, but will not have access to funding and you will have to pay a financial contribution for each unit which you can pay as you go. Eligibility requirements for a free ESOL course are summarised below. - Aged 19 or over on 31st August of the funding year - UK nationals and other persons with right of abode - UK nationals in the EEA - EEA nationals in the UK - Other non-UK nationals - Unemployed and in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance or - Universal Credit or if employed and earning below £20,319 per year. Eligibility requirements can be complicated, so the important thing is to always ask us if you are not sure what support you are entitled to. You will also be asked to complete an initial assessment prior to starting this course so that we can assign you to a course appropriate to your level of learning.
