Description


If you are interested in working towards an ESOL qualification you can register your interest by adding yourself to the waiting list for this course. This will make future enrolment easier and enable us to contact you once we have courses available for booking. You will also need to undertake an initial assessment to ascertain the level you will be working towards.

ESOL courses are for people whose first language is not English. An ESOL course can improve your English fluency, confidence in English speaking, reading and writing, and help increase your employability. Courses take place online using Google Classroom and are delivered by specialist language tutors.

Each course is delivered through two 2 hour sessions per week and typically last 15 weeks. ESOL courses are free for learners that are unemployed and in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance or Universal Credit. Or if you are employed and earn below £20,319 per year.

Learners who earn over that amount are still welcome to attend the course, but will be expected to make a financial contribution for each unit which you can pay as you go.

Courses start throughout the year, subject to sufficient interest. You will be contacted when the next course is available for enrolment.

What will I learn?
You will increase your confidence in English and develop your speaking and listening, reading and writing skills.

What will I need to take part?
We recommend that you have a pencil, a pen and a notepad during the session, further resources are provided in Google Classroom. If this is an online course, a laptop, PC or tablet and a stable internet connection will be needed.

ESOL courses are for people whose first language is not English. You will also be asked to complete an initial assessment prior to starting this course so that we can assign you to a course appropriate to your level of learning.

Where can it lead to?
You could gain a Gateway ESOL Skills for Life qualification at the level appropriate to your learning. ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) qualifications are designed to develop English skills and build confidence in using English in everyday life, education, and employment. Having developed your skills and knowledge in the course subject, you could try other courses or use the skills you have learned in your work or personal life.

Ciurse eligibilty and fees
ESOL courses are free for learners that are unemployed and in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance, Universal Credit or employed and earning below £25,000 per year. Learners who earn over that amount are still welcome to attend the course, but will be expected to make a financial contribution for each unit which you can pay as you go. To be eligible for an ESOL course for free you must also meet our eligibility requirements. This includes having lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years and if from an EU/EEA country must have a pre -settled or settled status, this rule does not apply for those granted a refugee status. UK nationals in an EEA country do not qualify unless they have recently returned to the UK. International students can still enrol on this course but will not have access to funding and will have to pay a financial contribution for each unit which can be paid as you go.
