Description

Functional Skills courses are free courses that give you the opportunity to gain a qualification up to Level 2. If you are interested in working towards a Functional Skills Maths qualification you can register your interest by adding yourself to the waiting list for these courses.This will make future enrolment easier and enable us to contact you when a course is available.

PLEASE NOTE: Although these courses have now started you may still be able to join. Alternatively, new courses may start, subject to sufficient interest. You will be required to complete an online initial assessment to join one of these courses.

This course is free to eligible learners, if you dont already have a grade C/level 4 or above at GCSE, are normally resident in the UK and are over 19 years of age you will be eligible to attend this course for free.

What will I learn?
You will learn how to use maths in everyday situations, develop your confidence in using maths and gain a City & Guilds certificate at the level appropriate to your learning. You will learn to understand and apply maths in everyday situations and recognise how to use a variety of methods to improve maths skills, and you will prepare for a Functional Skills qualification in maths at the appropriate level.

What will I need to take part?
We recommend that you have a basic calculator, a ruler, a pencil, a pen and a notepad during the session, further resources are provided in Google Classroom. If this is an online course, a laptop, PC or tablet and a stable internet connection will be needed.

What to expect
Maths Functional Skills courses are aimed both at people looking to brush up on certain skills for everyday life, but also for those looking for GCSE grade equivalents. They are also the perfect qualification for you if you didn't achieve the GCSEs, you wanted when you were younger but now wish to develop essential life skills. Functional Skills courses have different levels. Before the course starts, you will complete an initial assessment to make sure you join the most suitable course level for you. Functional Skills are recognised GCSE alternative qualifications, with a Functional Skills Level 2 course being equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 (C). Both GCSEs and Functional Skills qualifications are ideal for anyone who wants to get to grips with the basics of Maths. However, one may be more suitable for you than the other depending on your learning or career goals. If you are unsure which is more suitable for you, please contact us for further information, advice and guidance.

Where can it lead to?
Functional Skills in English and Maths are essential for success for further study, qualifications and work opportunities. This qualification can provide the basis to access jobs, training opportunities and higher-level education courses. You could progress to higher level Functional Skills; a Level 2 course is the highest level available in Functional Skills. This course is accredited by City and Guilds which means that upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate that is recognised by employers and other education providers showing the qualification title and level achieved.

Course eligibility and fees
You must not already have an maths Functional Skills Level 2 or GCSE grade 4 (C). Learners who are eligible for full funding from the ESFA will not be charged a fee for any aspect of the course, including exams, resources or awarding organisation registration and fees.
