This course is an introduction to the fascinating world of archaeology. The course explores the birth and development of archaeology as a discipline, looking at some of the methods used to retrieve information about the past and how these, like our understanding of the past, has changed over time. The course aims to set out the basics of dating material and sites, using case studies from British sites of the prehistoric, Roman and Medieval periods to explain the techniques and methods used to research, excavate, record and interpret the past. This course will be of interest for anyone who is fascinated by past times. The course is divided into two sessions with a break for lunch (not provided).
