This course is an introduction to the fascinating discipline of archaeology. The course explores the birth and development of archaeology as a discipline, looking at the methods used to retrieve information about the past and how these, like our understanding of the past, has changed over time. The course aims to set out the basics of dating material and sites, using case studies drawn from British sites of the prehistoric, Roman, and Medieval periods to explain the techniques and methods used to research, excavate, record, and interpret the past. This course will be of interest for anyone who is fascinated by past times. The course is divided into two sessions, with a break for lunch (not provided).
